If you’ve been to Yorktown Center in Lombard you’ve probably seen the The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center Hotel. Towering over the shopping mall, the hotel is a beautiful tiered building in white. At the base are two of the area’s best restaurants, Holy Mackerel! and Harry Caray’s. And at the top is a room of magnificent proportions, the Presidential Suite.
At 1,400 square feet, this suite is larger than most Chicago apartments. Within the bedroom is a private sitting area that incudes two reading chairs, a sleeper sofa, a 32″ LCD TV, and a work desk big enough to allow you to spread out. The master bathroom features a large garden tub, with jets (!), and a separate shower. Made exclusively for Westin by Kohler, the “Heavenly Shower” includes a Rain shower head and a hand wand.
You’ll see Heavenly a lot when you stay at a Westin. This trademarked name is attached to all of their custom-made products, including their pillow-top mattress and box spring, bed clothes, and even their bath amenities. After staying at both The Westin Michigan Avenue and The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center I can tell you that they are, indeed, heavenly. My personal favorite was the bathrobe. Wrapping up in that was an exercise in decadence. (You can take this “heavenly” experience home with you by ordering your favorites from the Westin store.)
The “suite” part of this Presidential Suite is the attached living space and balcony. Fitted with a half-bathroom, this room can be closed off from the bedroom so you can entertain guests and business associates. Or, you can keep the connecting door open and treat the suite like your own personal apartment. The living room has another sitting area with a 42″ LCD TV, another sleeper sofa, and two more reading chairs. The large kitchenette includes a refrigerator, microwave, and cabinets that store wine and water glasses, silverware, and linen napkins, which you can use on the twelve-seat dining room table.
One of the best parts of this whole suite is the outdoor terrace. At 600 square feet, it’s nearly double the size of your standard hotel room. The balcony is equipped with comfortable lounge chairs and a dining table so you can eat outside.
In addition to the sheer amount of space you get in this suite, you’ll also get other amenities like free Internet access, free bottled water, and access to the Westin Executive Club Lounge. Guests can visit the lounge in the morning for a continental breakfast and in the evenings for appetizers and cocktails. Appetizers usually include a spread of cheese and meats as well as a hot dish. Cocktails, beer, and wine are available for purchase and you can just charge them to your room. The lounge is also accessible throughout the day if you want to pop in to get some water, coffee, tea, or soft drinks.
A room this luxurious does not come cheap. However, many of these amenities are also available in the traditional rooms and the Executive Club Rooms (which include access to the lounge). Each room is stocked with a refrigerator and coffee maker. If you’re trying to stay fit they even have WestinWORKOUT Rooms, with equipment right in your suite.
In addition to the restaurants, there is also an indoor pool, a sun deck, a fitness center, a sauna, and a hot tub. The hotel is steps away from Yorktown Center and there’s a shuttle to surrounding shops and attractions.
