Imagine a place with where you can plug in and do some work, or hang out and unwind with some delicious hand-crafted chai tea (a redundant phrase, by the way), and then throw in some amazing Indian/Nepalese foods that are made with love right on the spot from a flaky crust on their savory pies, to the handmade sauces that accompany each dish. Well, such a place exists right in Logan Square. Chiya Chai works hard at being a location where you can get your fill on authentic chai imported directly from Nepal and chow down on scrumptious dishes comprised of locally sourced ingredients. The charming and ever-present owner Swadesh greets guests with an effervescent smile and a knowledge and enthusiasm for chai that will convert you to a regular.
Never resting on their laurels, Swadesh and his wife/co-owner are always spicing things up with new offerings. For instance, they hosted a chai workshop back in March. Additionally, they have recently opened up slightly more formal dining area for dinner in the rear of the space serving up a more robust menu seven nights a week and featuring a ladies’ night, date night (proving quite popular with prix fixe menu), and happy hour Monday through Friday. If you’re yet to be convinced, consider that the Chicago Reader named them the 2017 Best Indian Restaurant in Chicago.
If you haven’t been lately, venture to Logan Square to see what’s popping up. You will be pleasantly surprised, if not shocked, at the quality and quantity of amazing restaurants springing up along Milwaukee Avenue and nearby. Chiya Chai represents one of those gloriously original locales that is owner-run and passionate for what they do. This country was built by places like this, bringing exotic flavors and ideals from far-off lands that expand our minds and palates. Stop in for some amazing chai and stay for swoon-inducing spicy (or not) dishes that will have you returning again and again.
