The Chicago mainstay (if you know, you know…), That’s Weird, Grandma! turns 25! We have been delighted by this unique show on more than one occasion, and would like to wish Grandma the happiest of birthdays, and many more to go!
If you have been sleeping on this remarkable Playmakers Laboratory creation, what are you even doing with your life? An original sketch show, written by kids, performed by adults, and enjoyed by all humans, That’s Weird, Grandma’s 25th Birthday show is now on stage at its usual home, Neo-Futurists, in Andersonville. Run, don’t walk, as only a handful of performances remain. And this time around, each performance features some of the alumni. You might also finally find out the origin story behind the name!
Why should you attend, you ask? Well, we can’t tell you what to do. But if you love live theatre, hearty laughter, and seeing this frequently terrifying world through the eyes of a child, you will thank us later. There are ninjas, kings, bunnies, fish, talking books, and Prince makes an appearance (we said what we said). The play runs a quick hour without intermission, and it leaves you a better human. If that wasn’t enough, you would be supporting the teaching of creative arts in schools. A win-win.
