Sonnet Wheel of Fortune – The Shakespeare Project of Chicago
May 29 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Hosted via Zoom by Niles-Maine District Library. May 29, 2020, 7:00PM CDT.
Four actors from The Shakespeare Project will be featured. When we share the screen we “spin the wheel” and a random number generator picks out a number from 1-154 which are the numbers of Shakespeare’s sonnets.
Once the number is selected, an actor has one minute to study the sonnet (which is now on the screen) and then perform it for the audience. After he/she presents the sonnet, the actor speaks about how they were able to make sense of the sonnet in such a short amount of time. The audience learns techniques for reading the sonnets and using the actor’s craft. The process is then repeated with another actor getting a random sonnet from the wheel. We should have time in one hour to go through the process (select, prepare, present, discuss) with about 12 sonnets. A fun way for our audience to get a deeper insight into the actor’s craft and learn some techniques that will help them approach their own reading and understanding of Shakespeare.
This online, virtual program will be presented using Zoom and is free and open to all.
